So it’s here! The 15th Sydney Film School Festival, Wed 14th & Thu 15th December. Chavel Theatre, Paddington.
I am so honoured/surprised and secretly thrilled/terrified that SFS chose a still from GARLAND for the invite and promotional material. Talk about pressure :/
Everything is due in about 51 hours. Let’s do dis.
NESTS - teaser trailer. (AKA short reel for my composer to work off in the mean time)
reasons why the recent PBS American Masters episode on Woody Allen is worth watching, pt. 1 of ?:
cinematographer Gordon (“Prince of Darkness”) Willis don’t need no optically-printed splitscreen for the psychiatrist scene in Annie Hall.
watch it here.
Filed Under: Things that shouldn’t make me cry but do.
AHHH I always thought this was split screen. Should never underestimate Mr Allen.
It’s less than 2 weeks before GARLAND & NESTS are due into SFS and the pressure is mounting. (In a good way of course)
My editor for GARLAND - Emily - is marvellous. I’m always surprised at just how much more an editor can bring out of a story, and Emily has steered this film onto something a little darker, a little faster, but ultimately something more magical.
My composer Luca Bogo is currently composing the score. Originally we were going for an old Hollywood MGM days sound, but after some experimenting, well, it makes the film a little cheesy. So Luca is playing around some more, which he happily enjoys.
NESTS is in post - I’m currently editing while the talented Colin Jones is composing. I’ve given him a tough brief, but I am certain he will pull it off, as he always does.
I’ve been busy on a few thesis shoots lately. My production design seems to be in most demand, followed by acting (!!!!) and consulting. I’m consulting on my friend Matt Oastler’s thesis film next week which I am VERY excited about. It will be shot on Sydney Harbour in one night through mostly improvisation with the actors (à la Blue Valentine) It will be a long night, but a really great experience will be had.
After all this comes the next big adventure, landing a job.
